Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the National Central Bureau, INTERPOL Lagos Annex, have rescued two Colombian nationals lured to Nigeria and held captive by a human trafficking syndicate, dismantling the criminal hideout in a swift operation.
The rescue followed actionable intelligence from INTERPOL NCB Bogota on August 26, 2026, regarding two female Colombian citizens, Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa, who were fraudulently lured to Nigeria, held against their will and had their travel documents confiscated by Chinese nationals currently at large.
Police operatives launched a covert tracking operation upon receiving the intelligence, locating the Lagos hideout and safely rescuing both victims the same day, though the fleeing suspects abandoned the location upon sighting the approaching team, prompting intensified efforts to track down the remaining syndicate members.
The rescued victims are currently in safe custody receiving necessary support, with the Colombian Embassy in Accra working closely with the Bureau to secure hotel accommodation and emergency travel documents for their safe return to Bogota.
Inspector General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property within Nigeria while deepening collaboration with international law enforcement partners to combat cross border crime.
