The Federal Ministry of Education has fully digitalized the selection framework for the 2026 President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards. Minister of State for Education Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad announced the modern selection process in Abuja ahead of the World Teachers Day celebrations on October 5, 2026.
Developed alongside state education ministries and alignment guidelines from the African Union, the automated evaluation portal replaces legacy paper applications to improve public trust. The digitized platform guarantees transparent scoring, immutable record archiving, and equitable benchmarking across all nominated educational institutions.
Under the national celebration theme, Transforming the Teaching Profession for Africa’s Future, the ministry outlined five operational pillars: innovation, mobility, artificial intelligence, inclusion, and professional excellence. The minister emphasized that emerging technologies like artificial intelligence must assist educators by streamlining administrative workflows rather than replacing human classroom leadership.
The upcoming national main event will feature delegation marches representing all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside key symposium discussions. Highlighting the event, 14 top performing educators will be presented with major prizes, including laptops and national institutional recognition for school excellence.
Supportive remarks from the Nigeria Union of Teachers and ministry executives underlined continuous teacher training, workplace welfare, and digital skills development. Officials pledged ongoing collaboration across all levels of government to build a globally competitive education system under the national reform agenda.
