The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 25th August 2026 a public holiday in honour of this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him.

Announcing the holiday on behalf of the government, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji Ojo extended felicitations to Muslims across Nigeria and the diaspora, describing the occasion as a moment to reflect on a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others.

He encouraged all Nigerians, not only the Muslim community, to draw lessons from those qualities, adding that the period should also serve as a time for collective prayer for the peace and cohesion of the country.

Tunji Ojo urged citizens to mark the celebration with restraint and mutual respect, wishing Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid while reaffirming government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property nationwide.
