Barely two days after announcing an intervention in the failed sections of the Benin Sapele axis of the Benin Asaba Sapele Road, the Niger Delta Development Commission has commenced work, with reconstruction flagged off at the Amukpe Roundabout in Delta State. Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led the flag off ceremony alongside NDDC Governing Board Chairman Chiedu Ebie, the Commission’s Executive Director for Projects and other directors, with Edo State’s NDDC representative Patrick Aisowieren, Senator Ede Dafinone and House Committee Chairman Erhiatake Ibori Suenu also in attendance. Idris to Senior PR Practitioners: Your Wisdom Should Not Retire With You

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has urged senior public relations practitioners to pass on their knowledge and experience to younger colleagues, describing mentorship as one of the truest measures of professional success. Idris spoke at the maiden Bashir Adamu Chedi Annual Memorial Lecture and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Kaduna State Chapter, describing the event as an enduring platform for mentorship and a fitting tribute to the late Chedi, whose greatest legacy, he said, was not the positions he held but the practitioners he influenced. The Minister stressed that no profession can endure if every generation is forced to start from scratch, calling for experience to be transferred and institutional memory preserved so yesterday’s mistakes become tomorrow’s lessons. He said young practitioners bring energy and knowledge of emerging technology while senior practitioners bring judgement and wisdom, urging both sides to see these strengths as complementary rather than competing. Idris called on practitioners to uphold truth, credibility and integrity, particularly as artificial intelligence and social media continue reshaping communication, saying Chedi’s life should remind professionals that their most enduring legacy lies in the values and knowledge they pass on to others. The event drew a wide range of dignitaries including NIPR Vice President Prof Emmanuel Dandaura, PRCAN Chairman Dr Nkechi Ali Balogun, NAN Managing Director Ali M Ali, NTA Director General Abdulhamid Dembos and FRCN Director General Dr Mohammed Bulama, among others. Ghost Workers Beware: Tinubu Orders Forensic Sweep of IPPIS and Federal Agencies

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, to oversee a comprehensive forensic audit of Federal Government systems, including the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System and the administration and internal controls of federal agencies. The directive follows a Federal Executive Council resolution on August 19, 2026, responding to findings by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on fake agencies, ghost workers and other control failures across government. The audit will run in two parts, the first examining IPPIS and related payroll, personnel, pension and financial management platforms to trace how fictitious or ineligible persons were enrolled and review access, identity, biometric and bank account controls, while checking interfaces with GIFMIS, Remita and the Treasury Single Account to determine whether fraud stemmed from system defects or deliberate circumvention. The second component will cover all federal agencies, departments, commissions and parastatals, establishing a definitive inventory of such bodies and verifying their legal basis, alongside how they obtain official recognition, budgetary consideration and access to government systems. Tinubu directed that the exercise be conducted with the highest standards of independence and forensic integrity, with the audit team collaborating with the ICPC to complement ongoing investigations and prosecutions, aiming ultimately to close systemic loopholes and strengthen accountability across government. FAAN Ends Bolt Standoff, Apologises to Stranded Airport Passengers

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has resolved its operational dispute with ride hailing service Bolt, clearing the company to resume operations immediately at FAAN managed airports following weeks of disruption for travellers. In a statement dated August 27, 2026, FAAN said the standoff stemmed from nearly a decade of efforts to address challenges around commercial and e hailing vehicles at airports, including passenger solicitation, unregulated pickups and accountability concerns, which led to the introduction of the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System, a queue management tool the Authority insists was never designed to compete with Uber, Bolt or any other mobility platform. The Authority clarified that fares highlighted in recent public discussions were not new rates imposed by FAAN or ACHRAMS, but existing airport taxi fares that the system simply made more visible, a transparency measure that inadvertently drew unfavourable comparison with the lower fares passengers had grown used to on e hailing platforms. FAAN acknowledged the significant impact the temporary interruption had on passengers and issued a direct apology for the difficulties caused, while stressing that its actions were driven by regulatory, safety and security considerations rather than economic interest. Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, said the resolution proves that airport security and integrity can be protected while preserving the convenience e hailing services offer passengers, adding that FAAN remains engaged with other e hailing operators and expects outstanding discussions to conclude soon. The Authority reaffirmed that passengers remain free to choose whichever authorised transportation option best suits their needs, with FAAN’s responsibility limited to ensuring that whichever service they choose operates within a safe, secure and accountable airport environment.
