Sheikh Al Sudais to Online Preachers: Guard the Sunnah, Reject Extremism and Shortcuts

Sheikh Al Sudais has called on social media influencers and content creators to take care in spreading the authentic Sunnah, urging them to explain its meanings, objectives and educational values with sound, creed based methodology. He said content creators should draw on events from the Seerah to strengthen Tawheed, moderation and balance, while observing proper principles for deriving and applying evidence from Islamic teaching. The Sheikh emphasised the importance of highlighting the methodology of the early generations of Islamic scholarship in handling such matters, applying its lessons appropriately to present day circumstances. He warned against introducing innovations into the religion, cautioning equally against both extremism and negligence in religious practice and teaching. His remarks call for a preserved and correct methodology in how the Prophetic biography is presented and discussed across digital platforms reaching millions of young Muslims worldwide. Night Strikes in Borno: Air Force Reportedly Wipes Out 38 Terrorists in Hours

The air component of Operation Hadin Kai has reportedly eliminated about 38 suspected terrorists in a series of precision air strikes against terrorist concentrations in Borno State, carried out between the night of August 21 and the early hours of August 22. According to counter insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, an armed reconnaissance platform picked up intelligence on terrorist vehicles and fighters near Aduwa around 10.23pm on August 21, tracking a group of about eight fighters gathered in one location alongside several other clusters nearby before striking the larger concentration, an operation assessed to have neutralised approximately 16 terrorists. Around midnight, the same platform tracked roughly 10 terrorists who had fled the initial strike and regrouped near a tree, striking the group in a follow up engagement that reportedly neutralised all 10, bringing the combined toll from the Aduwa operations to about 26. In a separate strike, another precision platform tracked around 12 fighters gathered in a hut near the Buratai area, maintaining surveillance before receiving authorisation to engage. The strike, carried out at about 12.31am on August 22, was assessed to have neutralised all 12 suspected terrorists at the location. The combined operations form part of intensified efforts by the military to dismantle terrorist formations and disrupt their freedom of movement across Nigeria’s North East. Land, Oil and Fear: Ilaje Communities Cry Out Over Border Tension with Itsekiri Neighbours

Residents of 19 coastal and oil producing communities in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have appealed to the Federal and Ondo State Governments to urgently intervene in a land dispute with neighbouring Itsekiri communities in Delta State, warning that tension is rising and could spark an inter communal clash. For generations, residents have lived and worked around the creeks of Ugbo Kingdom, but fear is now growing over what they describe as incursions by armed persons from a neighbouring Itsekiri community into land they consider their ancestral territory. The disputed area, known as Odun Ebiwonjumi, sits close to the Atlantic Ocean and offshore oil activities, a proximity residents believe is fuelling growing interest in the land from outside parties. Community leaders are calling for urgent dialogue between the Ondo and Delta State governments, alongside elders from both ethnic groups, to resolve the matter peacefully before it escalates. For the Ilaje residents, the stakes go beyond property lines, touching on their livelihoods, their ancestral heritage and the long standing peace between the two communities. Silent Superbugs: Pharmacists Sound Alarm as Nigeria’s Drug Resistance Crisis Deepens

A senior voice in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector has warned that antimicrobial resistance is becoming one of the biggest threats to human and planetary health, cautioning that every unnecessary or incorrect use of antibiotics and antimalarials gives microorganisms another chance to outsmart the medicines meant to kill them. Speaking at the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Branch Pharmacy Week 2026, the expert flagged a dangerous pattern where patients self-diagnose malaria and buy antimalarials from vendors without proper testing, instead of going through a qualified healthcare provider for diagnosis and treatment. The message was blunt, government alone cannot solve this. Clinicians were urged to prescribe responsibly and carry out proper diagnostic work before treatment, while pharmacists and drug vendors were told to stop dispensing antibiotics without prescriptions or antimalarials without a confirmed positive test, with a call for Lagos State to formally adopt the Nigeria National Prescription and Dispensing Policy. Farmers and animal husbandry practitioners were also urged to use antimicrobials responsibly and observe proper withdrawal periods before animals reach the market, while the public was told to stop self-medicating with antibiotics or demanding them without medical advice. The appeal to the pharmacy profession was clear, map the pharmaceutical ecosystem to give the Ministry of Health accurate workforce data, strengthen referral pathways to clinical services, and help close the door on unrestricted access to prescription only medicines before Nigeria’s antibiotics lose their power for good. FAAN Boots Company Over Alleged Illegal Parking Fines at Abuja Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has ordered the immediate removal of a company accused of illegally imposing parking fines on motorists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, following a complaint over irregular enforcement of parking rules. FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, disclosed the action in a post on X, saying the complaint was escalated to Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku, who ordered the company’s immediate ejection from the airport. The complaint, raised by a user identified as Ogundipe Esq, alleged that enforcement agents clamped vehicles of motorists who had merely stopped briefly, then demanded a N25,000 fine and, in some cases, directed payment to personal accounts through a point-of-sale operator rather than an official channel. He further alleged that motorists paying through the account displayed at the enforcement office were warned their vehicles could be delayed until payment was confirmed. Achimugu said Kuku has consistently promised swift action wherever evidence of illegal activity affecting airport users emerges and confirmed that discussions are underway to identify a suitable replacement company for the affected duties. He urged vehicle owners to comply with designated parking and traffic instructions at the airport to avoid similar disputes going forward. By Asiwaju Adekunle Saheed

Arsenal Open Title Defence in Style as Havertz, Saka Sink Coventry

Champions Arsenal began their Premier League title defence with a comfortable 3-0 win over newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium, continuing the dominant form that carried them through preseason. Arsenal broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Riccardo Calafiori found Kai Havertz, who slotted home, before Bukayo Saka doubled the lead in the 23rd minute from close range after a Christos Tzolis cross. Martin Odegaard added a third three minutes into the second half with a scuffed effort that beat goalkeeper Carl Rushworth. The result extends Arsenal’s unanswered goal tally to six across the Community Shield and their league opener, a marked shift from the tighter, tenser finishes that defined the closing stretch of their title winning campaign last season. Manager Mikel Arteta’s side looked notably more fluid with Havertz, Odegaard and Saka starting together for only the second time since December 2024. Havertz has now scored in four consecutive starts for Arsenal, appearing to have reclaimed the number nine role from last season’s top scorer Viktor Gyokeres, who did not feature off the bench. New signing Tzolis, brought in for a modest forty million euros from Club Brugge, impressed on his debut with the pressing and delivery that set up two of the three goals. For Coventry, the defeat was a reality check after a bright start, with manager Frank Lampard’s side facing a home clash against fellow promoted club Hull City next as they look to find their footing back in the topflight.
