Lagos Targets 3,000MW Power Supply by March 2027 to Build 24 Hour Economy
The Lagos State Government has announced an ambitious energy master plan to expand state electricity supply to over 3,000 megawatts by March 2027, scaling up from its current operational capacity of below 1,000 megawatts. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu unveiled the target during the Fourth Lagos Business School Africa Energy Conference. Represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the governor detailed a comprehensive strategy to mobilize an additional 2,000MW through independent power projects, national grid resources, power barges, and embedded generation options. The plan incorporates a seven-point operational framework designed to optimize transmission, distribution, gas-to-power pipelines, and metering coverage. The administration highlighted notable progress in renewable energy projects, including the solarization of 42,000 streetlights and ongoing solar installations across over 270 public schools. Governor Sanwo-Olu called on private financiers and energy operators to partner with the state, emphasizing that uninterrupted power remains the cornerstone of industrial competitiveness.
